South Street Seaport,
New York City
New York City is not a resort island and it is not a resort by any
stretch of the imagination. To the contrary, it is free enterprise
gone mad. However, for travelers visiting the area "The Big Apple"
is a must see and therefore included in our guide. For a complete
guide to New York City, see All New
York City Guide.
Resort islands in the US North East are located
100 miles north of New York City and include Block Island, Nantucket,
Martha's Vineyard, and the hundreds of islands off the coast of Maine.
Judy Fisher at Block Island
The most beautiful island on the US North East coast is Block Island,
Rhode Island. Block Island is not as popular as Martha's Vineyard or
Nantucket making the island even more pristine and beautiful. High
bluffs rising from the sea, pristine beaches, and rolling green hills
contribute to Block Islands stunning appearance. See Block Island
- Natures Treasure on the Sea or Block Island Guide for more information
on the island.

Block Island Ferry Dock
Martha's Vineyard is the most popular among the North East islands.
Unlike Block Island, it is more developed and populated. Fine restaurants,
extraordinary nightlife, and shopping make the Vineyard the most sought
after resort in the north east. Perhaps the most interesting part
of the Vineyard is Edgar Town, a small coastal town filled with historical
homes, jazz cafes, and extraordinary restaurants. See Best Guide To
Martha's Vineyard or Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce for more
information.

Block Island Coast
Nantucket offers the best of both the Vineyard and Block Island. A
historical whaling village, Nantucket is pristine and serene. The
island is surrounded by stunning beaches and some interesting fishing.
Quality restaurants adorn the island and shopping (see Shop On Nantucket)
is extraordinary. See Nantucket Island Information Center and The
Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce for more information. And finally,
Absolutely Nantucket is a really great Website on Nantucket.
The most pristine islands are located on the
east coast of Maine. Here you find very few people, tall fur trees,
high bluffs, and eatable seafood under every rock. Small towns dot
the countryside. The lobster industry thrives here and the locals
are friendly to outsiders. The finest sailboat built in America, the
Hinckley, is constructed at South West Harbor. You can not find better
quality in a sailboat or nicer people to do business with than Hinkley.
See Destination Maine or The Maine Resource Guide for more information.
