Like most Europeans, the French on Martinique speak some English, however, as a courtesy to them learn just a little French before you go. Try to learn simple words like hello (bonjour), thank you (merci), and excuse me (pardon) in French. It shows respect for your host and it's fun too! And if the French see that you are at least trying, they will be more than happy to speak your language out of respect for you. Creole is also spoken on the island and the same common slang spoken on all the island of the Caribbean.
