Hawaii - Big Island

The Island of Hawaii is called "The Big Island" and is the largest island in the six islands of Hawaii. Snow capped mountain peaks, live volcanoes, and black sand beaches make the big island most unusual. For the best local Internet Website on The Big Island, see Hawaii's Big Island.

Volcano National Park
The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the most popular attraction on the Big Island. Established in 1916, the park encompasses 230,000 acres of volcanic activity. Inside the park you will see the the Earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa, that rises to 13,677 feet. For a great hotel located in the rain forest at the entrance to the Volcanoes National Park, see The Volcano Hotel.

Hilo is the fourth largest city in the state of Hawaii. The snow-capped mountain of Mauna Kea can be seen from Hilo on a clear day. Liliu'okalani Japanese-style gardens, Hilo Tropical Gardens, and Nani Mau Gardens are great attractions in the city of Hilo.

Hawaii's black sand beaches
For those on a budget looking for great accommodations, see Arnott's Lodge. Arnotts Lodge offers a wide range of accommodations from tent spaces to dorms and shared bath private rooms to new "en suite" private rooms in a garden setting. In addition, they are the only guides authorized by the National Park to take hikes out to the flowing lava and that is the ultimate adventure. Even for those who can afford the finest of Hawaii, Arnotts are not lacking in comfort, fun, and outdoor adventure.

Kona Surf Resort
The resorts are concentrated at Kona. Four Seasons Resort is one extraordinary example. Offering seclusion without isolation, this is one of the finest resorts on the Kona Coast. Of course the Hilton Waikoloa Village has everything you need to enjoy the best of Hawaii. Located on a 62 acre private resort on the Kohala Coast, the Hilton does it right. Other extraordinary resorts on The Big Island include The Kona Surf Resort, The Kona Village Resort, and the Mauna Lani Resort.
